A self-taught painter, English Weather’s founder, Gohar Goddard, had always wanted to paint, but, as for so many women, the pressures of juggling a family and running a business left limited time to pursue this dream.

Gohar first picked up a paint brush mid career. Her early artistic influences included Paul Klee, Henri Matisse, Antoni Tàpies, Basquiat and Robert Rauschenberg.

Following an educational excursion to Cornwall’s St Ives in the early 2000s, she came to love and be heavily influenced by the works of the St Ives School – Alfred Wallis, Peter Lanyon, Roger Hilton and Ben Nicholson.

The influences of all of these artists can be glimpsed in many of her art works, which inform the designs of English Weather’s scarves. In fact, the design for every scarf is first given life on canvas.
